HIMAL -Himalayan Organic Life’s Journey with AFBIC, IIT Kharagpur

We are thrilled to share our journey as part of the Agri Food Business Incubation Centre (AFBIC), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, under Cohort II of the flagship RKVY–RAFTAAR Agri Startup Innovation Program (AIP) — an initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India.

Inspired by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji’s #AtmaNirbharBharat – Vision 2047, this program aims to nurture innovation, self-reliance, and sustainability in India’s agri-entrepreneurship ecosystem.

Two Weeks of Learning, Growth, and Clarity — A Fast-Paced Incubation Journey

The program commenced from 15th October 2025, the incubation journey with AFBIC, IIT Kharagpur has been an enriching experience of learning, growth, and clarity. These two weeks have been filled with expert-led sessions, mentorship, and real-world insights, helping us refine our business model, strengthen our technology, and align our mission toward a sustainable, farmer-centric ecosystem.

At the heart of HIMAL- Himalayan Organic Life’s innovation lies the integration of solar technology with food processing — through our Hybrid Solar Dehydrator with IoT. This clean-tech solution bridges renewable energy and food value addition, allowing us to process, preserve, and market high-value, traceable, and sustainable agri-products.

The hybrid dehydrator combines solar and auxiliary power sources, while IoT-based sensors precisely monitor and control temperature, humidity, and airflow to ensure consistency and quality. This integration not only reduces post-harvest losses but also enhances energy efficiency, traceability, and income generation for farmers, transforming traditional agri-processing into a climate-smart, value-driven enterprise.

 Guidance and Mentorship

A key highlight of this journey has been the continuous guidance from the AFBIC team.

We are deeply grateful to Mrs. Shalini Singh (COO, AFBIC) for her invaluable mentorship in helping startups identify issue areas, refine business strategies, and bring clarity to their goals. Her support continues to be instrumental in our growth and business direction.

We also thank Mr. Kanishka Bhunia (CEO), Dr. Hema Yadhav, Mrs. Neha Sinha, Mr. Raju Manda, and Mr. Rounak Sen for their expert insights and guidance throughout this incubation journey.

Business Idea Validation — by Mr. Abhishek Kapahi

The session on Business Idea Validation by Mr. Abhishek Kapahi, CEO of Scaler Bee, Angel Investor, and Startup Mentor, was particularly impactful. His emphasis on validating assumptions through real customer feedback helped us sharpen our product focus and test-market the Hybrid Solar Dehydrator with IoT to ensure it meets genuine farmer and market needs.

DPR Development — by Mrs. Neha Sinha

The Detailed Project Report (DPR) session by Mrs. Neha Sinha provided clarity on structuring a strong business case — covering company overview, market analysis, operational plan, and financial feasibility. Her guidance helped us refine our DPR to align with investor expectations and the upcoming evaluation rounds (RIC and SIC).

Digital Marketing — by Mr. Raju Manda

The Digital Marketing session by Mr. Raju Manda highlighted the importance of building a strong brand identity and communicating value effectively. We learned strategies for content creation, brand storytelling, and audience engagement to promote Himalayan Organic Life’s clean-tech food ecosystem to both urban consumers and global markets.

Go-To-Market Strategy — by Mr. Sourendra Chatterjee

The Go-To-Market session by Mr. Sourendra Chatterjee provided practical insights into distribution models, pricing, and customer acquisition strategies. We’ve refined our market approach to include online platforms, retail chains, trade fairs, and HORECA networks, ensuring a holistic and scalable route to market.

Financial Modelling — by C.S. Satish Chandra

The Basic Financial Model for Startups session by C.S. Satish Chandra was a cornerstone in understanding startup finance. It offered frameworks for building sustainable pricing models, cost projections, and revenue streams — helping us design a financially robust model for long-term growth.

 Mentorship and Ongoing Support

Beyond these sessions, Mrs. Shalini Singh (COO, AFBIC) continues to provide one-on-one mentorship, helping startups like ours refine their structure, compliance, and readiness for funding. Her guidance ensures we stay focused on measurable impact and investor preparedness.

 APEDA’s BHARATI Program Launch

In parallel, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has launched the BHARATI — Export Enablement and Acceleration Program for Startups, empowering agri-entrepreneurs to expand into global markets.

This aligns perfectly with HIMAL-Himalayan Organic Life’s mission to position solar-processed Himalayan agri-products as traceable, value-added exports, reinforcing India’s image as a leader in sustainable, clean-tech agriculture.

 Looking Ahead

This incubation journey is more than just a learning experience — it’s a movement toward sustainable transformation in agriculture.

Through solar integration, IoT innovation, and value-driven food processing, Himalayan Organic Life is creating pathways for farmers to transition from raw producers to empowered agri-entrepreneurs.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the entire AFBIC, IIT Kharagpur team and fellow cohort members for fostering collaboration and innovation.

As we move ahead, we remain committed to scaling our clean-tech agri model — integrating solar energy, IoT, and traceability to ensure every Himalayan product reflects purity, sustainability, and farmer prosperity.
